VOTE 1 - New South Wales Electoral Commission

The State election on Saturday 24 March highlighted the increasing value of the New South Wales Electoral Commission (NSWEC) web portal www.elections.nsw.gov.au and www.efa.nsw.gov.au in meeting the expectations of today’s voters.

The web portal made available a wealth of electoral material including information on the Registered Parties and Candidates, as well as how to enrol and how to vote as a pre-poll voter. Voters could easily use the online enrolment lookup to determine if and where they are enrolled, the electoral district search feature to establish their district, and could find their nearest polling place by accessing the interactive mapping system based on Google maps develop by Squiz specifically for the NSWEC.

The NSWEC worked closely with Squiz to develop and implement their portal in MySource Matrix®. The solution proved to be capable of scaling to meet the considerable traffic and load expectations, but also to seamlessly integrate with the other systems involved.

It was a combined effort to plan and configure the software, hardware and web hosting infrastructure, with the final set up and implementation delivered by a number of skilled Squiz staff. Load testing was undertaken by a 3rd party and demonstrated the system was capable of the high transaction rates expected. Even though the peak web traffic exceeded projected estimates (based on the recent Victorian election held in late 2006) by more than 25%, the Squiz MySource Matrix® powered solution successfully served some 800,000 pages of information to voters in the final two days alone.

Squiz maintains an ongoing relationship with The NSWEC and looks forward to delivering more successful outcomes in the future.

The Department of Treasury and Finance - Western Australia

Squiz has been granted approval to supply software and services to government departments in Western Australia through the SPIRIT framework. Following this approval Squiz has secured the contract for the State Library of Western Australia to implement MySource Matrix CMS.

SPIRIT is an integrated Information, Communication, and Technology (ICT) procurement and governance framework that is mandatory for all Western Australian government Buyers. It provides standardised processes and supporting templates through which government agencies can procure ICT Services from a market of known Suppliers pre-qualified for one or more Services.

SPIRIT places particular emphasis on delivering an efficient and transparent buying process that meets government and State Supply Commission (SSC) policies. Upfront costs are kept to a minimum with no pre-requisite insurance levels or risk coverage, as these are only required at the time business is won.

SPIRIT has introduced:

  • consistent procurement practices that encourage transparency and managed government risk,
  • streamlined processes that encourage frequent market testing, disaggregated purchasing and visibility for local industry regardless of size or location, and
  • access to a known and competitive market to facilitate value for money purchases by Buyers.
